Welcome to Pointe Noire
Pointe Noire is situated along the coastline of the Republic of Congo in Central Africa. Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, this is the second largest city in the country, its economic capital and has one of the largest maritime ports in Africa.
With a variety of small and medium sized businesses as well as some corporate companies, it is possible for one to find most things needed for daily and business life in the city itself.Supermarkets, bakeries, doctors, pharmacies, hair salons, travel agencies, opticians, jewellery stores and more can be found in the city centre. There are also a selection of night clubs for those who enjoy night life and for culture vultures, there is the French Cultural centre, which hosts weekly movies as well as live music and poetry shows.
As an economic centre, Pointe Noire does not really cater to the tourist but it is possible to visit a few natural areas within one days travel from the city itself. There are a few travel agencies which could advise one on sites to visit.
The weather is hot and wet for 9 months of every year and hot and dry for the remaining 3. Being close to the equator, humidity is a factor and malaria is a concern for visitors and residents alike.
Pointe Noire is generally safe and public transport in the form of taxis, is easily accessible and affordable. There are a few supermarkets and for fresh produce there are a few larger markets on the outskirts of the city. It is usually advisable to visit these along with a local resident to be sure of getting the best prices.
